What Is Stake Snakes?

Quick answer

Stake Snakes is an in-house Stake dice game inspired by Snakes and Ladders: two dice move you around a 12-space board of multipliers and snakes, and a snake loses your bet. Stake sets its RTP at 98%, a 2% house edge. The Difficulty, from 1 snake to 9, sets the size of the multipliers.

How to Play Snakes on Stake

  1. Open Snakes from the Stake Originals lobby. The Manual tab plays one round at a time.
  2. Enter your Bet Amount in the currency you hold. The ½ and 2× buttons halve or double it.
  3. Set the Difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert or Master. It sets how many snakes sit on the board, from 1 at Easy to 9 at Master.
  4. Press Bet, then Roll. Two dice are thrown, and their total moves you around the board’s 12 spaces.
  5. Land on a multiplier and Total Profit shows your multiplier and profit. Land on a snake and you lose your bet.
  6. To play a series of rounds, switch to Auto. Set your bet, the Difficulty and the number of rounds, then add stops on profit and loss.

Snakes Payouts by Difficulty

The Difficulty shapes every payout: it sets how many snakes sit on the board and the range of multipliers. More snakes leave fewer safe spaces, so Stake pays bigger multipliers.

Stake publishes a max win of 1,851,776.64x your bet. Your profit on a single bet is still capped by Stake’s maximum profit per bet.

Stake lists a single RTP for Snakes: 98%. Over a long run of rounds that is about $2 kept for every $100 wagered. From Bronze VIP ($10,000 wagered), or from sign-up with code BONUSTIIME once Stake support activates it, Stake’s rakeback returns 3.5% of that edge, about 7 cents per $100. The Difficulty changes how your wins are spread, so pick the swing your budget can take.

Dragon Tower uses the same five Difficulty levels, from Easy to Master, and Moles is another animal-themed Original; both also run at 98% RTP. To compare every Original, see our house edge table.

Snakes Strategy: What You Can Control

You control

  • Your bet size and how many rounds you play
  • The Difficulty: 1 snake at Easy, up to 9 at Master
  • A loss limit and a time limit, set before you start

You don’t control

  • The dice: every roll is random
  • The house edge, built into every multiplier
  • Streaks: the last round has no effect on the next

Your main choice is the Difficulty, which Stake calls an adjustable volatility mechanic. Easy gives smaller wins, more often. Master leaves only a few safe spaces, for much bigger multipliers. Neither end changes the 2% edge.

In Auto, profit and loss stops cap a session, not the edge. Instant Bet only removes the animations and delay: you play more rounds per hour, and the edge applies to each one.

Doubling your bet after each loss (Martingale) does not change the edge. It makes losing runs more expensive, and it stops at Stake’s maximum bet and maximum profit per bet.

18+. Play with money you can afford to lose. Stake lets you set limits or self-exclude: see our Stake self-exclusion guide and our responsible gambling page.

How to Check a Snakes Round

Snakes turns your seeds into the two dice of each roll. Their total moves you around the board, and the space you land on, a multiplier or a snake, sets the result of that roll.

  1. Before you play, open Fairness in the game and note the hashed server seed.
  2. After your session, rotate your seed: Stake reveals the old server seed.
  3. Hash it, compare it with the one you noted, then replay any round with your client seed and nonce.

Stake Snakes FAQ

Is Stake Snakes Rigged?

No. Snakes is provably fair: the two dice of every roll come from your client seed, Stake's server seed and the nonce. Stake shows a hash of the server seed first, so once you rotate it you can replay a round and check each dice total and the space it led to.

What Is the RTP of Stake Snakes?

Stake lists Snakes' RTP at 98%, which leaves a 2% house edge, with no separate figure for each Difficulty. Over many rounds that is about $2 kept per $100 wagered.

What Is the Max Win on Stake Snakes?

Stake lists a max win of 1,851,776.64x your bet on its Snakes page. Any win is also capped by Stake's maximum profit per bet.

How Many Snakes Are on the Board in Stake Snakes?

It depends on the Difficulty: 1 at Easy, 3 at Medium, 5 at Hard, 7 at Expert and 9 at Master, on a board of 12 spaces. More snakes come with bigger multipliers, from 1.01x to 2.00x at Easy up to 17.64x to 18.00x at Master. Choose the swing your budget can absorb.

Is Stake Snakes Like Snakes and Ladders?

Only loosely. Stake says the game is inspired by the board game: you roll two dice and move around a board. But Stake's board has 12 spaces holding only multipliers and snakes, and a snake does not send you back down: land on one and you lose your bet.

What Is the Minimum Bet on Stake Snakes?

$0.0001, or the equivalent in your currency. Stake sets this minimum for its original games, Snakes included, and rejects any bet below it. The maximum bet depends on the currency you play with.
