What Is Stake Mines?

Quick answer

Stake Mines is an in-house Stake game on a 5×5 grid. You choose 1 to 24 mines, hidden among the 25 tiles, then pick tiles. Each gem raises your multiplier until you cash out, and a mine ends the round. Stake sets its RTP at 99%, a 1% house edge. More mines and more gems mean bigger, rarer wins.

How to Play Mines on Stake

  1. Open Mines from the Stake Originals lobby. In Manual mode you pick each tile yourself.
  2. Enter your Bet Amount in the currency you hold. The ½ and 2× buttons halve or double it.
  3. Choose how many Mines to hide, from 1 to 24. Gems shows how many gems are on the board: 22 with 3 mines, the default.
  4. Press Bet, then click a tile, or use Random Pick to let the game choose.
  5. Each gem raises the multiplier shown in Total Profit. A mine ends the round at once and the bet is lost.
  6. After any gem, press Cash Out to collect your bet times that multiplier, or pick another tile.
  7. To play a series of rounds, switch to Auto and set the number of bets. Advanced mode adds Reset or Increase By on wins or losses, plus Stop on Profit and Stop on Losses.

Mines Payouts: Mines, Gems and Multipliers

Your payout is your bet times the multiplier when you cash out. Every gem raises it, and each step is bigger when you play with more mines. The multipliers follow the odds: divide the 99% RTP by your chance of finding that many gems in a row. With 3 mines, two gems in a row come up 77 times in 100 (22/25 x 21/24), and 99% divided by 77% gives about 1.29x.

Stake lists a single RTP for Mines: 99%. Over a long run of rounds that is about $1 kept for every $100 wagered. From Bronze VIP ($10,000 wagered), or from sign-up with code BONUSTIIME once Stake support activates it, Stake’s rakeback returns 3.5% of that edge, about 3.5 cents per $100. The mines you choose change how often you win and how much, not that edge.

Dragon Tower and Hilo are two other climb-and-cash-out Originals: Hilo also runs at 99% RTP, Dragon Tower at 98%. To compare every Original, see our house edge table.

Mines Strategy: What You Can Control

You control

  • Your bet size and how many rounds you play
  • The number of mines and when you cash out
  • A loss limit and a time limit, set before you start

You don’t control

  • Where the mines are hidden on the board
  • The house edge, built into every multiplier
  • Patterns: past boards say nothing about the next one

No cash-out point beats the edge. Wherever you stop, your chance of getting there times the multiplier comes back to about 99%. With 10 mines, two gems in a row come up 35 times in 100 (15/25 x 14/24) and pay about 2.83x: 35% of 2.83 is about 99%. Stopping early wins more often; going further wins more, less often.

Doubling your bet after each loss (Martingale) does not change the edge. It makes losing runs more expensive, and it stops at Stake’s maximum bet and maximum profit per bet. The Increase By option in Auto only automates it.

18+. Play with money you can afford to lose. Stake lets you set limits or self-exclude: see our Stake self-exclusion guide and our responsible gambling page.

How to Check a Mines Round

Mines turns your seeds into the positions of the mines on the 25 tiles when the round starts. Your clicks only uncover tiles, so the order you pick them in cannot move a mine.

  1. Before you play, open the game’s fairness settings and note the hashed server seed.
  2. After your session, rotate your seed: Stake reveals the old server seed.
  3. Hash it, compare it with the one you noted, then rebuild any board with your client seed and nonce.

Stake Mines FAQ

Is Stake Mines Rigged?

No. The mines are placed from your client seed, Stake's server seed and the nonce, and Stake shows you the server seed's hash first. Once you rotate the seed, you can rebuild the board of any past round and check that no mine moved after your clicks.

What Is the RTP of Stake Mines?

Stake lists Mines' RTP at 99%, which leaves a 1% house edge, whatever number of mines you choose. Over many rounds that is about $1 kept per $100 wagered.

How Many Mines Should You Choose on Stake Mines?

No number beats the house edge. With 1 mine, your first pick is safe 24 times in 25 and pays about 1.03x; with 10 mines, it is safe 15 times in 25 and pays 1.65x. Choose the swing your budget can absorb.

How Often Do You Find 5 Gems with 3 Mines?

About half the time. The chance is 22/25 x 21/24 x 20/23 x 19/22 x 18/21, or 49.6%, and 99% divided by that gives about 2x your bet.

What Is the Max Win on Stake Mines?

It depends on how many mines you choose, so it is shown in game: Max Multiplier gives the top payout for your setting, paid only if you find every gem. Any win is also capped by Stake's maximum profit per bet.

Does Random Pick Change Your Odds in Mines?

No. The mines are already placed when the round starts, so a tile chosen by Random Pick is as likely to hide one as a tile you click. With 3 mines, your first pick hits a mine 3 times in 25, or 12%.
