What Is Stake Hilo?

Quick answer

Stake Hilo is a Stake Originals card game. A card is showing and you call whether the next one is higher or lower. Each right call raises your multiplier until you cash out, and a wrong one loses the bet. Stake sets its RTP at 99%, a 1% house edge. Long-odds calls and longer streaks pay more.

  • Cash out after any right call, or skip a card you don't like
  • Every card can be checked with your own seed

How to Play Hilo on Stake

  1. Open Hilo from the Stake Originals lobby. A card is already face up: you call the next one.
  2. Enter your Bet Amount in the currency you hold. The ½ and 2× buttons halve or double it.
  3. Press Bet and make your call: Higher or Same, or Lower or Same. Ace is the lowest card and King the highest.
  4. Each button shows its chance, and Profit Higher and Profit Lower show the multiplier and profit for each call.
  5. Don’t like the odds? Skip Card moves on to a new card without a call. Stake says you can skip up to 52 times.
  6. A right call raises the multiplier shown in Total Profit. Cash out to collect your win, or call the next card.
  7. A wrong call ends the round: you lose the bet and the multiplier you had built.

Hilo Payouts: Card Odds and Multipliers

Your payout is your bet times the multiplier when you cash out, and each right call raises it. On any single call, the less likely it is, the bigger its multiplier. The “or Same” in each button matters: on any card except an Ace or a King, a repeat of the same card wins whichever way you called.

Stake doesn’t say how the cards are drawn, but the chances the game shows fit an unlimited deck, where each of the 13 ranks is equally likely on every draw. With a 6 showing, Higher or Same is 61.54%: 8 ranks of 13, 6 to King. Lower or Same is 46.15%: 6 of 13, Ace to 6. A single 52-card deck, minus that 6, would give 60.78% and 45.10%. Divide 99% by each chance and you get about 1.61x and 2.15x, the two multipliers the game shows. The table below does the same sums for every card from 2 to Queen.

Stake lists a single RTP for Hilo: 99%. Over the long run that is about $1 kept for every $100 wagered. From Bronze VIP ($10,000 wagered), or from sign-up with code BONUSTIIME once Stake support activates it, Stake’s rakeback returns 3.5% of that edge, about 3.5 cents per $100. Calling higher or lower changes how often you win and how much, not that edge.

Mines, another climb-and-cash-out Original, and Video Poker, another card game, also run at 99% RTP. To compare every Original, see our house edge table.

Calculated from Stake's 99% RTP and 13 equally likely ranks, the model that fits the chances shown in game. Multipliers are rounded to two decimals: the game can show one 0.01 higher or lower, so check the buttons before each call. Only the 6 was checked on Stake's page: 61.54% and 1.61x, 46.15% and 2.15x. Ace and King are left out: the same-card rule does not apply to them.

Hilo Strategy: What You Can Control

You control

  • Your bet size and when you cash out
  • Each call, and which cards you skip
  • A loss limit and a time limit, set before you start

You don’t control

  • The next card: each draw is random
  • The house edge, built into every multiplier
  • Streaks: a run of right calls doesn’t change the odds

No call beats the edge. On every call, chance times payout comes back to about 99%: 61.54% of 1.61x is about 99%, and so is 46.15% of 2.15x. Skip Card changes which card you call on, not that maths. Safe calls win often and pay little; long-odds calls pay more, less often.

Doubling your bet after each loss (Martingale) does not change the edge. It makes losing runs more expensive, and it stops at Stake’s maximum bet and maximum profit per bet.

18+. Play with money you can afford to lose. Stake lets you set limits or self-exclude: see our Stake self-exclusion guide and our responsible gambling page.

How to Check a Hilo Round

Hilo turns your seeds into the cards dealt in a round, one after another. Your calls and skips never change which card comes next, only whether you win on it.

  1. Before you play, open the game’s fairness settings and note the hashed server seed.
  2. After your session, rotate your seed: Stake reveals the old server seed.
  3. Hash it, compare it with the one you noted, then replay any round with your client seed and nonce.

Stake Hilo FAQ

Is Stake Hilo Rigged?

No. The cards come from your client seed, Stake's server seed and the nonce, and Stake shows you the server seed's hash first. Once you rotate the seed, you can replay any past round and check that no card changed after your calls.

What Is the RTP of Stake Hilo?

Stake lists Hilo's RTP at 99%, which leaves a 1% house edge. Over the long run that is about $1 kept per $100 wagered.

Is Ace High or Low in Stake Hilo?

Low. Ace is the lowest card and King the highest. The odds show it: with a 6 showing, Lower or Same is 46.15%, which is 6 of the 13 ranks, Ace to 6. With Ace high it would be 5 of 13, or 38.46%.

What Happens If the Same Card Comes up in Hilo?

Your call wins, whether you chose Higher or Same or Lower or Same. Stake applies this to every card except the Ace and the King. That is why the two chances add up to more than 100%: 61.54% and 46.15% with a 6 showing.

Does Skipping a Card Help in Hilo?

It lets you choose the odds you face, not better value. Whatever card you skip to, each call pays about 99% divided by its chance, so the edge stays the same. Stake says you can skip up to 52 times.

What Is the Max Win on Stake Hilo?

Stake does not publish a single figure. Your multiplier grows with each right call and is shown in game, in Total Profit, so the top payout depends on your streak. Any win is also capped by Stake's maximum profit per bet.
